Cyberpunk: Edgerunners — Lucy Guide & Game Connections

Cyberpunk: Edgerunners is a 10-episode original anime series produced by Studio Trigger in collaboration with CD Projekt RED. Premiered on Netflix on September 13, 2022. Set in the Cyberpunk universe created by Mike Pondsmith, the timeline is primarily 2075–2076, roughly one year before the events of Cyberpunk 2077. The story follows David Martinez, a street kid who becomes involved with a crew of edgerunners (cybernetically enhanced mercenary outlaws) and begins installing increasingly powerful cyberware, particularly a Sandevistan. A sequel series, Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2, has been announced for 2026.

Lucy is the deuteragonist of Cyberpunk: Edgerunners and one of the most iconic characters from the series. A young woman of mixed Japanese and Polish descent, she is highly skilled with both netrunning and monowire combat. Her distinctive white/pastel rainbow-dyed bob haircut and multicolored eyes make her instantly recognizable. She is introverted, reserved and mysterious — keeping her past closely guarded while viewing Night City as a prison and dreaming of escaping to the Moon.

David Martinez is the protagonist of Cyberpunk: Edgerunners. A poor kid studying at the elite Arasaka Academy, he lives with his mother Gloria in Megabuilding H4 in Arroyo — until her death leaves him alone with a military-grade Sandevistan she was smuggling. His freakishly high tolerance for cyberware turns him into a Night City legend within a year, and the series tracks exactly what that rise costs.

Lucy has her own profile above — here is the rest of the main cast. Eight people make up the heart of the show: David, Lucy, Maine, Dorio, Rebecca, Pilar, Kiwi and Falco. Learn their names early; the series kills most of them.

• Gloria Martinez — David's mother, an EMT who sells cyberware from corpses to fund his Academy tuition. Her death in episode 1 starts everything; her EMT jacket becomes David's iconic jacket.
• Faraday — the crew's fixer (Giancarlo Esposito in the English dub), playing Arasaka and Militech against each other; engineers the crew's destruction and dies falling from Arasaka Tower.
• Mr. Tanaka — Katsuo's father, an Arasaka executive who wants David as a Cyberskeleton test subject; dies when the interrogation job goes wrong (ep 6).
• Julio — one of the rookie crew members David picks up after the timeskip; killed on the Totentanz job (ep 7).
• Ripperdoc "Doc" — installs David's chrome, prescribes immunoblockers and delivers the "Adam Smasher 2.0" warning (Kenjiro Tsuda / Borge Etienne).

After the anime's release, Cyberpunk 2077 received multiple updates adding Easter eggs and tributes to Edgerunners characters and events. These connections enrich both the anime and the game.

They arrived in two waves: patch 1.6 (the Edgerunners Update) added the Over the Edge job and Rebecca's shotgun, while Update 2.0 added the Columbarium memorials and Edgerunners-themed perk icons. • Drive through Arroyo in Santo Domingo past Megabuilding H4 — a side-job icon pings on your minimap as you approach.
• Follow it into the alley marked by the green Edgerunners graffiti and loot the braindance from the trash can beside it. Playing the footage starts the job.
• Text Muamar "El Capitan" Reyes and ask about David Martinez.
• Sleep 24 hours at any apartment — waiting on the street does not reliably advance the job.
• Reply to Falco's message when it arrives.
• Fast travel to the new El Capitan meet point (Dam Viewpoint area) and open the crate behind him: David's Jacket. Job complete.

Edgerunners is a direct prequel: it runs from 2075 to 2076 and ends months before V arrives in Night City in 2077. Neither work spoils the other, but by the time the game starts David Martinez is already a dead street legend, and the city quietly remembers him.

• The braindance V finds at Megabuilding H4 is the same cyberpsycho XBD David watches in episode 1 — someone added a "cautionary tale" warning David famously ignored.
• In-game media pinned the Corporate Center carnage on "unknown perpetrators"; street rumors correctly credit a young edgerunner's last stand.
• Falco texts V that his old crew's "15 minutes were up" and not to go looking for them.

Edgerunners is a Netflix original animated by Studio Trigger — the cult studio behind Gurren Lagann, Kill la Kill and Promare — in collaboration with CD Projekt RED. Announced in June 2020, it debuted September 13, 2022, one week after the game's Edgerunners-branded Update 1.6: ten episodes of roughly 25 minutes each.

The show runs on licensed tracks over Akira Yamaoka's score, and a large slice of the playlist is drawn from Cyberpunk 2077's own radio stations — the game's composers Marcin Przybylowicz and P.T. Adamczyk contribute original cues throughout. These are the songs that define the series.
